What is Assurance Wireless: Lifeline
- Assurance Wireless is an organization within T-Mobile and is the industry leader supporting the Lifeline federal assistance program.
- The Lifeline Assistance Program offers free wireless service and phones to qualifying low-income households.
- The Assurance Wireless organization became part of T-Mobile in April 2020 as part of Sprint-T-Mobile merger. The Assurance Wireless mission is to provide a convenient and superior quality experience to low-income customers – ensuring we serve the underserved and help them stay connected to their world.
- The LifeLine program is not available in all states. Visit Check Lifeline Availability to see if Assurance Wireless is available in your area.
Support Assurance Wireless customers
- Customers who activate with Assurance Wireless are T-Mobile customers and assisted as any other customer. These customers are supported online at AssuranceWireless.com or by Assurance Wireless Customer Care.
- Do not send Assurance Wireless customers to a local T-Mobile or Metro by T-Mobile store, they cannot perform customer service support, returns, or exchanges, similar to Virtual Retail.
Assist customers with applying for service
Direct new or existing customers to AssuranceWireless.com to apply for service or access their account.
On the site the customer can:

Lifeline assistance program
Recognizing the important benefits associated with phone access and concerned that low-income households may not be able to afford phone service on their own, the federal government created the Lifeline Assistance program in 1985. Assurance Wireless provides consumers who qualify based on federal or state-specific eligibility criteria free monthly data, unlimited texting, free monthly minutes, and a free Smartphone.

Data Peace of Mind is available via MyAccount (monthly plan), our street teams, or Customer Care. There are billing options available based on the customer’s needs, they can select $10/year up-front charge or being billed $1/month, plus tax.

- Apply online or contact Assurance Wireless Customer Care.
- Once approved, you’ll receive next steps on activation.
Lifeline Assistance Program eligibility guidelines
- Available for only one wireless or wireline account per household. Separate households that live at the same address are eligible, including residents of homeless shelters and nursing homes. Residents with temporary addresses are also eligible.
- Individuals qualify based on federal or state-specific eligibility criteria and are non-transferable.
- You may qualify based on household income or if you or a member of your household participates in certain public assistance programs such as:
- Medicaid/Medi-Cal
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps or SNAP)/CalFresh
- Supplemental Security Income
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
- Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
- Tribally Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
- Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations
