Trade-in

Trade-in device required to be attached to the new device order and meet trade-in program requirements.

If the trade-in device does not populate in the drop-down at the point of sale, process it using the generic SKU: ONLY ANY TRADE PROMO SMRTPHNE.

Damaged trade-ins

Customers can trade-in physically damaged devices and qualify for this promotion, but customers must accurately report device damage to prevent potential negative financial impacts.  Damaged devices have a reduced trade-in value, but customers will receive the full offer value. The trade-in device will qualify for this promotion even if the device:

  • Has a cracked screen or liquid damage
  • Does not power on
    • You must be able to retrieve the IMEI for trade to be accepted.
    • For iPhones (depending on model), the IMEI can be found on the SIM card, or it is engraved on the back of the device.
    • For Android devices, the IMEI is printed on the back of the device.
    • If the IMEI was used on the account recently or even on EIP on the account, it can be located from Device Dashboard or EC Summary within Atlas or Tapestry.

  • Promo value will not exceed the price of the purchased device.
  • Customers who enroll in a device promotion must maintain line of service and EIP tied to the promotion to receive the full value of the promo. If either is closed or canceled, the monthly credits will stop.
    • The trade-in credit is deducted from the promo value and applied per Trade-in device program & orders.
    • The remaining promo value is received via RDC. 
      Example: Trade-in a Apple iPhone 11  = $830 trade-in value. iPhone 16 Plus (256GB) $929.50 promo value - $830 trade-in value = $99.50 in bill credits (approximately $4.15 per month).
  • Important: New and Existing customers who purchase and trade in via Digital channels (including T-Mobile.com and T-Life app) will receive their full promotional value via RDC. 

Review & take action

  1.  To confirm a customer is included in the Segment, check ATLAS or Tapestry: 
    • Open Atlas/Tapestry and verify the account.
    • Under the Account profile section, you'll see the Segment listed as 052026_USCC_830_Phone.
    • If the segment is present and Active, proceed. If it is not present or is Inactive, stop, and refer to other promotions the customer may be eligible for.
  2. Go over the promo details and these advisements with your customer so they understand what to do to get and keep this promo:

    You'll receive the promo as a one-time trade-in credit and the remaining promo value as 24 monthly credits. These credits may begin within your 1-2 bill cycles after purchase. If you don't see a credit on your first bill, don't worry. You'll see a double credit on your second bill. 

    Your promotional credits will be paid out for the full term of the EIP with no means to speed up their payout. Additionally, you must maintain the line of service and the EIP tied to the promotion to receive the full value of the promo. If either is closed or canceled, the monthly credits will stop. 

    If you have a larger down payment, you may see a second bill credit with the same description on your bill. We apply this second bill credit to make up the difference for your higher out of pocket expense when your required down payment is greater than the promo value. 
  3. Confirm customer is on or changing to a qualifying rate plan.
  4. Help customers place their order.
    Important: The new EIP must be associated with the new device purchase. 
    • For ship-to orders, verify the correct email address is entered and remind customers they MUST sign their EIP agreement within 48 hours, or their order will be canceled. 
    • Trade-in must be attached to the phone order. See trade-in steps​ for details. 
    • Well-Qualified customers in Retail have the option to take their Instant Trade-In Credit and apply it to their new EIP balance. Check out trade-in transactions with EIP for more details.

Retail: Do NOT call the RSL to request Temp Double of the customer’s available ECL to make the customer eligible for the promo . These requests will be denied. Review Store issue resolution and support before engaging RSL for additional support.

T-Mobile for Business & Micro: Use Atlas when processing upgrade request. Digital Checkout, including any EIP agreements that may be required, must be created and accepted within the promo period to qualify.

FAQs

Yes, the new phone's EIP must be associated with the new device purchased for this promo in order to qualify.

Customers can only have one RDC promo attached to an active EIP. They may have multiple RDCs on the same line if they are attached to separate EIPs.
