DIGITS Support

Use this document to learn more about Watch paired / DIGITS service and which plans work best for customers. 

Choose the right DIGITS

DIGITS lets you use the same number on all your compatible devices (phones, computers, tablets, wearables) OR lets you have up to 20 numbers on a single device. T-Mobile has different versions of DIGITS to provide this functionality.

Watch paired / Data with Paired DIGITS

One number on multiple devices

  • A single number that rings on every device so you never miss a call.
  • Watch paired / Data w/ paired DIGITS is a MI plan that's used on Wearables.
  • There's a low speed data plan for wearables and a high-speed plan if used on smartphones. 
  • Provides network access and uses the main phone’s number with it rather than having a new number.
  • Needs a second SIM or device with embedded SIM that can call and text like it's main line, including Apple, Samsung, and Google Watches

DIGITS Talk & Text

Multiple numbers on one device
  • Your calls and texts will go to one device when your numbers are called (such as your home phone number and work phone number). 
  • Calls, voicemails, and texts stay separate from your main number in the DIGITS app or web client.
  • Share your DIGITS Talk & Text line with up to 20 friends & family, by adding them in the myDIGITS portal. 
  • SMS is supported, but shortcode SMS and call forwarding are not supported.
  • For non-T-Mobile customers: Use a Non-T-Mobile DIGITS Talk & Text line with a T-Mobile number and download the DIGITS app to their other carrier's device.

PROXY by DIGITS (Retired April 9, 2025)

Multiple numbers on one device

  • A free full virtual number (1 per BAN) with calling and texting capabilities accessible through the DIGITS app or web DIGITS clients.
  • It's like a free spam folder to keep your personal number, personal. 
  • SMS is supported, but shortcode SMS and call forwarding are not supported.
  • PROXY by DIGITS works just like a DIGITS Talk & Text line and acts like a spam folder for your phone.

DIGITS app and Web Client

Access any DIGITS or voice line in the DIGITS app or Web Client

  • Available on Android 8.0 /iOS 13 or later with a data connection.
  • A PC or MAC with Internet access can use a DIGITS or voice number via the DIGITS web client (using Chrome or the downloaded desktop application). Customers only need a microphone and speakers.
  • Share DIGITS or voice line with up to 20 people via the myDIGITS portal or DIGITS app using a T-Mobile ID.
  • The line can only be activated by eight users at a given time via the DIGITS app or Web Client. 
  • Customers with more than 99 lines cannot manage their DIGITS lines through the app or myDIGITS portal.

Getting started

There are some steps that need to be completed before customers can use DIGITS.

Initial steps

  1. Get a T-Mobile ID to make managing DIGITS easier.
    • The PAH needs to be set to the voice line for DIGITS to work properly.
    • Set up line permissions​ in the DIGITS app or MyDIGITS portal to associate the T-Mobile ID to the DIGITS lines being used.
    • Non-T-Mobile DIGITS Talk & Text customers will need to set up a T-Mobile ID using the myDIGITS portal
  2. Note that the DIGITS line needs to have an e911 address assigned. Copy the e911 address from a voice line to set this up.
  3. Enable Multiple Device Services on My T-Mobile.

Plan specific steps

Customers must add themselves as a user through the DIGITS app​ or MyDIGITS portal.

  • Enable the Do Not Disturb option to stop the delivery of unwanted calls, messages, or voicemail.
  • Avoid using the PROXY number for services, like Uber or banking institutions, that require SMS shortcodes for setup or use.
  • Not available for Prepaid or Prepaid Legacy.

  • Customers must add themselves as a user through the DIGITS app​ or MyDIGITS portal.
  • Others must be added, including their T-Mobile ID, to use the line.
  • Avoid using the DIGITS Talk & Text number for services, like Uber or banking institutions, that require SMS shortcodes for setup or use.
  • Not available for Prepaid.

  • Must pair to the primary line in Atlas or the myDIGITS portal so the device knows which number it's a copy .
  • Not available for Prepaid 

  1. Link your T-Mobile ID to the number in the myDIGITS portal.
  2. Download the DIGITS app​ and log in with your T-Mobile ID to begin calling and texting using your DIGITS Talk & Text number.

Final steps

  1. To access DIGITS, complete the steps below based upon the DIGITS product type:
    • DIGITS Talk & Text, PROXY by DIGITS, or Non T-Mobile DIGITS Talk & Text: Download and install the DIGITS app​ or visit https://digits.t-mobile.com online.
    • Data with Paired DIGITS
      • Wearables: Follow the device specific Getting started steps to complete On Device Activation and set up cellular.
      • Smartphones: Insert the paired SIM card into the device to call, text, and access data services natively from the device.
      • iOS: Messages sent via iMessage will not sync between Apple and Android devices. 
  2. Advise customers that in limited circumstances, 9-1-1 Emergency Service may not operate as expected with DIGITS. 
    • Whenever possible, customers should call or text 911 using the primary T-Mobile phone number. 
    • Always give the 911 operator the location and the number they can be called back. 
    • Be aware that a callback could be answered by anyone they are sharing a DIGITS number with. 
  3. Use the DIGITS section in your tools to troubleshoot issues.  If the customer’s issue doesn’t match one of the DIGITS flows, use the troubleshooting flow that closely matches the issue (e.g. cannot make and receive calls).

Billing

  • Domestic roaming: Domestic roaming data usage has a 200MB cap. All apps requiring data will stop working, including the DIGITS app. Customers can still use the DIGITS app to see messages, voicemail and call histories, but no new information will come in and they won’t be able to use any of the DIGITS in the app. Once back into T-Mobile network coverage or Wi-Fi coverage the DIGITS app will start working again.
  • International roaming: The DIGITS app covers customers when roaming internationally. However, slower data speeds may cause intermittent issues. Calls and texts made from the DIGITS app follow the same rules as any cellular phone or text message made internationally.
  • SITT: Each line you use in the DIGITS app follows the rules of that line’s native device.  If you have SITT covered on one of your existing lines, it will be covered when using it in the DIGITS app.

  • Domestic roaming: No domestic roaming is provided
  • International roaming: All calls and text are billed at the standard international rates for International Roaming.
  • SITT: Calls to international destinations made from a DIGITS Talk & Text line are not included in the Family Stateside International Talk & Text feature. Standard per-minute rates apply for these calls. If customers make frequent calls to international destinations, recommend they use their main number, not the DIGITS line.
  • T-Mobile Network: Unlimited minutes and messaging.

  • Domestic roaming: No domestic roaming is provided
  • International roaming: All calls and text are billed at standard international rates for International Roaming when using the DIGITS app to complete calls. The SIM provided is not usable for international roaming.
  • SITT: Calls to international destinations made from a DIGITS Talk & Text line are not included in the Family Stateside International Talk & Text feature. Standard per-minute rates apply for these calls. If customers make frequent calls to international destinations, recommend they use their main number, not the DIGITS line.

  • Domestic roaming: No domestic roaming is provided
  • International roaming: All calls and text are billed at the standard international rates for International Roaming.
  • SITT: Calls to international destinations made from a DIGITS Talk & Text line are not included in the Family Stateside International Talk & Text feature. Standard per-minute rates apply for these calls. If customers make frequent calls to international destinations, recommend they use their main number, not the DIGITS line.
  • T-Mobile Network: Unlimited minutes and messaging.

  • Domestic roaming: Same as the primary line’s features
  • International roaming: All calls and text are billed at the same rate as part of the primary number. Check device specifications to confirm the device supports roaming
  • SITT: Same as the primary line’s features
  • T-Mobile Network: Minutes and messages based on the paired line. Unlimited 3G data for the paired SIM.

  • Domestic roaming: Same as the primary line’s features
  • International roaming: All calls and text are billed at the same rate as part of the primary number. Check device specifications to confirm the device supports roaming
  • SITT: Same as the primary line’s features

  • Domestic roaming:
    • Unlimited calling plan: Free
    • Other plan: Deducts from plan minutes
  • International roaming: Not supported
 

  • Using DIGITS number via the app usesdata for text messaging, and synchronizing contacts and call logs.
  • Calls use the phone’s native dialer and consume the customer’s minutes for each call.
  • Data used will come from the primary’s phone plan on the phone in use.

Support

General support

Support DIGITS lines like any other line, including account changes, device how-to's, and troubleshoot with Atlas troubleshooting or the FIX flows in Grand Central.  

  • Most T-Mobile plans have DIGITS app and website access already included at no extra charge which allows access to existing phone numbers on another device. 
  • PROXY by DIGITS required a new activation to receive the monthly discount (Max of one PROXY by DIGITS line per BAN).
  • You can port in a number to use with DIGITS Talk and Text or Non-T-Mobile DIGITS Talk and Text.
  • Change the Product/Line Type in Samson​ to change a GSM plan to/from a DIGITS plan. When converting a DIGITS Talk & Text or Proxy by DIGITS line to a regular line:
    • Customers have to get a new SIM card. 
    • The virtual SIM for DIGITS Talk & Text or Proxy by DIGITS will not work with a physical device, and without the new SIM, customers will not be able to use their service.
  • Manage DIGITS on My T-Mobile / MyDIGITS portal
    • Pair the new line with the primary line when customers add the Data with paired DIGITS plans.
    • Customers adding DIGITS Talk & Text plans must add themselves as a user before they can start to use these.
  • Most short codes are only delivered to the primary SIM card. They may not display in the DIGITS Web Client, DIGITS App, or on Data with paired DIGITS lines.
  • When a voice line is enabled in the DIGITS app or Web Client, the customer will receive an SMS stating "T-Mobile Security Message: A device has logged into your T-Mobile line xxx-xxx-xxxx via DIGITS. If this wasn't you, call us immediately at 611 and mention "Ref 100" to the agent to block this activity." If the customer did not enable the line or reports their number has been spoofed or compromised, follow standard fraud processes.

 

Set Expectations for DIGITS / Watch Paired plans

  • Get a T-Mobile ID to make managing DIGITS easier.
  • Enable Multiple Device Services for the primary line (not the DIGITS line) in My T-Mobile or the T-Mobile app.
  • Pair the DIGITS line with the primary line in the myDIGITS portal. This tells the device which number it's a copy of and can be changed at any time.
  • Data with Paired lines cannot be accessed in the T-Mobile DIGITS app & web client.
  • Existing lines can convert to or from one of these plans but reps must change the product type.
  • Data with Paired DIGITS plans do not support Mobile HotSpot.
  • Devices using a Data with Paired DIGITS plan are eligible for Device Protection. 

 

Using DIGITS

  • Data with paired DIGITS lines provide the indicated services in North America only (US, Mexico, and Canada).All calls made from the US to other countries are billed the same as your primary line’s features.
  • International roaming: 
    • All international roaming calls and text are billed at the standard international rates.
    • International data roaming is unlimited at 128kbps.
    • Apple watch note: 
      • International roaming is supported on the Apple Watch Series 5 and newer (including SE) running watchOS 9.1 or later.
      • Data Roaming must be enabled on the Apple Watch (Settings > Cellular > turn on Data Roaming)
      • The roaming option is only available when the watch is set up in companion mode (e.g. Set up for myself), not Family Setup mode.
  • A separate MSISDN for the Data with Paired DIGITS line will display on My T-Mobile, the customer’s bill, and Atlas. This number cannot be used and is for billing purposes only.
  • Most short codes are only delivered to the primary SIM card. They may not display in the DIGITS Web Client, DIGITS App, or on Data with paired DIGITS lines.
  • If there’s an active call on one device, another call cannot be initiated until the call is ended on the first device.
  • Data with Paired DIGITS lines have their own data bucket. Both devices can use data simultaneously.
  • Calls will not go to the Data w/ paired DIGITS device (ie, watch) if the phone (GSM) line is suspended/IMEI blocked. Messages may not go to the paired watch if the phone is turned off so let customers know their phone should be connected to Wi-Fi or cellular in these situations.

  • If an item is listed in your column, you own that.
  • If an item is not listed in your column below and appears in the Tech Support column, then it's not a supported request and you'll need to handoff to a different department or own it yourself. 
  • Always check with leadership for a scenario that you're unsure of.
