Inseego routers: firmware updates

Use this page to learn about firmware updates for the Inseego routers. To see if a firmware update resolved a known issue, refer to Inseego routers: known issues.

Firmware updates

  • Firmware updates are automatically pushed out in phases over 7-10 days.
  • Updates are installed overnight between 1am and 3am local time.
  • Not all subscribers will receive the update at the same time.
  • The gateway must be online with a stable connection to the T-Mobile Network to receive the update.
  • Do not restart the gateway when it's updating. The gateway will automatically restart once the update is complete:
    • FX2000/FX3100: Device LED is orange while installing firmware.
    • FX4100: Device display will show “firmware update in progress.”  Device LED is yellow while installing firmware.

Check firmware versions

  1. Select Gateway Information.
  2. Review the Firmware version.

  1. Instruct the customer to press the button next to the display on the FX4100.
  2. Toggle until they see Firmware.
  3. Press the button again to show Update: Hold Button to Check.
  4. Press and hold the button for 3 seconds and the device will check for a firmware update.

  • SIP ALG Configuration - Ability to enable or disable (Off by default) SIP ALG in the local Admin UI
  • Added Full Cone NAT Option - An additional NAT option where a private IP address and port is mapped to a specific port on the WAN interface, allowing external hosts to send packets to the internal device through that mapping without restriction.
  • Speed Test from Device Display - Ability to trigger a speed test and view results directly from the device display without needing the local UI or Connect
  • Ping for WAN Lookup address - Added ability to perform a WAN Lookup based on IP address (ICMP). Previously, an FQDN was required

Manual upgrade firmware

  • Customers can check for firmware using the Web GUI or the Inseego Connect Gateway Tool.
  • Firmware updates are done in batches, and updates are not available to all devices at the same time.
  • There is no way to force a firmware update before a device has been added to the "list" to update.
